FYI, Vol. II of ANTIQUE FIREARMS 1849-1899 is now available on Amazon. My article on Miller Trapdoors is in Man At Arms, issue of December, 2020.
I consider the number to be a serial number because it is visible. They run from a single digit to over 2200 per my research. They also serve as a parts matching-number, and a factory inventory/tracking number.
