my guess is its one of the very few made in 1888, Has the earlier trigger guard. Looks nice!

1880 rifle recall

I know in 1880 - 1881 the early sn rifles were turned in, My question is was it all rifles under 50k or rifles in 50k range and under that were to be returned back.

In that forum he said the barrel was missing the front sight and not sure if it was cut down. No picture of the front of barrel so its hard to know if it was cut down or not, The stock looked original.

Captured 1873 carbines ??

These are three early model 1873 carbines all appear to have been captured by native Americans. The First one pictured is in the 17k range, I cant remember the exact number but seen on a forum The Second is in the high 20k range has signs of indian usage and only a few numbers away from a documented...

I have seen three types, One without date one with date but looks almost engraved rather than stamped and one with a deeply stamped MOD 1879. also when looking at them close enough you do see some mild differences in them. Thanks for the information. On the carbine i already gave Mr.Hosmer the Sn a awhile back. Its 14 digits away from a turned in carbine turned in by magpie eagle in 1877 and looks too have had been used by the natives.
