Another newbie question. Buttplates this time
OK so here we go again with newbie questions. I recently picked up a cheap cutdown 1873 Trapdoor project to build a truck gun/Carbine. Stock and barrel have been cut shorter. Barrel is right at 21" and the stock was cut well ahead of the rear band so I simply contoured the nose a bit to more re...

Off the wall receiver question
Crazy question but here goes anyway. I'm finding that I have some mix matched left over parts and would love to build a bang around "truck gun" just for fun. I'll have a spare Model 1870 receiver that currently has a shot our and cut to 22" barrel. Will a Model 1873 45-70 barrel screw...

Re: A blind squirrel finds a nut.. 1867 Cadet
So the new title is "A blind squirrel trips over a stick and falls down a rabbit hole" lol. Thanks for clarifying what I have. I guess I won't be retiring any time soon..

Re: A blind squirrel finds a nut.. 1867 Cadet
Man you guys are good ! Comparing it to the original in the GB link I can see several things wrong with mine. This is why I come here. Things I noted right away besides the incorrect thickness. The "1" dosn't have a line across the bottom. Numbers aren't perfectly aligned. Eagle is too clo...

A blind squirrel finds a nut.. 1867 Cadet
Recently purchased a small lot of gun parts, mostly trapdoor. In the mix was a lock plate marked 1867 and thinner than a Civil War era lock plate. What kind of cobbled up Bannerman nonsense is this I thought to myself. Until I did a bit of research. It appears that I have a lock plate that somehow e...

Re: WTT 1866 hammer for a 1868-1870 hammer
Fred Gaarde my apologies if my post was confusing. I have a Model 1870 project and I don't have any barrel bands at all. I need a LOT of parts and I realize I'm going about this the hard way but it's the only way I can own these things on my limited budget.
