Re: Model 1868 sn 69

Say what you want about this gun, but its being presented in a true auction format. Meaning.....its only worth what folks are willing to pay for it. It comes down to a seasoned collector vs some noob with deep pockets. Most auctions I see on GB now have starting prices that are already 25% over valu...

Re: Ever seen a Trapdoor with Krag rear sights?

I know how to hot blue, I know how to cold blue. These old guns were 'rust blued' and the patina is now brown. I know of no reliable way to mimic the old school 'brown' without subjecting the entire part to a rusting booth. (I do quite a bit of rust bluing and have had varying success, but I dont th...

Re: Ever seen a Trapdoor with Krag rear sights?

Yep, thats the SGT's peep sight on the back. I was intrigued with it but eventually swapped it out. The third hole is now visible (the bubba hole). Normally Id fill the hole and reblue the area, but there NO way Id be able to match the patina on a 140 year old gun. I can deal with one errant screw h...

Ever seen a Trapdoor with Krag rear sights?

I just bought this off ebay last week to replace the pitted chamber I discussed on another post. Anyways, I was intrigued that it was wearing a Krag 1902 sight. I got it today and see that someone drill and tapped (to the original x26 tpi) a 3rd hole so it would accept the Krag sight. Its been there...

Re: Were breech plugs soldered in? I have to pull mine..

The good news is I removed the breech plug without much effort. The bad news is the chamber cant be salvaged. I cleaned it up a bit, but nothing short of a cut back and reaming would really help. (Nothing that I can do) To add insult to injury, I found a few more cracks in the stock (one being criti...

Thats good to know. The thought of tearing this gun open like this really depresses me, but at this point its either surgery or a make it a wallhanger.

Were breech plugs soldered in? I have to pull mine..

Evening gents. I bought my 6th Trappy last week and it turned out to be a turd. The chamber looks like someone tried to extract a broken case with an ice pick. I need to try and polish out a few burs and smooth out the neck. (The chamber is actually damaging brass, I reload and I value the cases mor...
