Re: 1868 50/70 VALUE ?
Not to mention .50/70 brass is unobtanium now. I believe that holds the value back too. The 1868 is one of my favorites, they all seem to want to shoot well.

Re: Anyone try the Lyman 330 gr. Gould HP bullet mould?
So I shot a deer today with those bullets out of my star serial carbine using the big hollow pointed bullets and 62gr of powder. It knocked the deer off her feet and that was all she wrote. I actually found the bullet in the mud behind her about 8” deep. The bullet expanded nicely but I used a harde...

I’m a North Dakotan too. My wife and I enjoy visiting it on occasion, it also is in close proximity to the best walleye fishing in America if not the world.

Re: Help Me Identify 1884 Trapdoor
That gun would probably make a good shooter, replaced blocks are pretty common, honestly there are a lot of mix master guns out there especially with old surplus guns, some parts replacements were done by the military many more were done by civilians to keep the guns running. It is what it is. Still...

Re: Anyone try the Lyman 330 gr. Gould HP bullet mould?
I ended up getting a lee collet crimp die and it works really well. The hollow point version of this bullet shoots incredibly well, it cut my groups in half with my carbine. It’ll do 2-3” groups from the bench. My 1884 infantry rifle shoots them even better and I’m pretty sure it would do 1” as long...

Re: cartridge case head separation
Case head separation is a common phenomenon and to this day tools are issued to soldiers to remove headless cases. The old copper benet primed cases were definitely troublesome in this respect, I believe the internal primer has a lot to do with this, they seem to separate at the primer crimp maybe d...

Re: Original 50/70 ammo
The starline brass is really top notch, I do hope they make some more. I’m shocked another manufacturer hasn’t stepped up to make it, I can get .43 Spanish no problem for gosh sake, why not .50/70.

Re: Original 50/70 ammo
20 rounds of starline brass goes for well over $100 per 20 now a days. Personally I’ll wait for them to make a run of it and buy a few hundred this next go around. I recently sent my .50 -140 sharps sporting rifle back to Shiloh sharps to have it rebarreled in .45/70. It’s the only cartridge I can r...

Re: Late 1868
It looks like it would be a great shooter as long as the bore is nice. It has definitely been cleaned up and the difference in the action colors verse the block bother me. I have to say the 1868 rifles tie with the ‘73 carbines as my favorite rifles. They are almost always tack drivers if they have ...

Re: Anyone try the Lyman 330 gr. Gould HP bullet mould?
Yeah, I was surprised such a heavy bullet expanded that much, it was fired from 100 yards away so it lost some velocity too. I hope I get a rifle deer tag this year, this will be the bullet I use.
