Re: Wounded Knee rifle and carbine serial numbers

Like Dick, I am not aware of anything that would list a Wounded Knee association. However, if you can provide a list of the units engaged there, it might be possible to check to see if there are any hits for that unit within a reasonable time range. I seem to recall that it was largely an infantry, ...

Re: Hilton trophy medal

That is neat! I had never seen one, although I had heard the name in reports on the National Matches. I found three listings for similar items, two for eBay and one other source. One has a red/white/blue ribbon and bar with a CAPTAIN bar, so apparently these were issued to the members of the winning...

Re: 1868 50/70 VALUE ?

Three is not a huge demand for the M1868s, and the condition and missing/damaged parts hurt a lot, but the un-numbered barrel just totally knocks it out of the collector category in my opinion. It can still be a fun shooter, and a "filler" or wall hanger for "old gun over the fireplac...

Re: Two New Ones For Me serial # look up please.

I have M1888 rifle serial number 534237 marked with a large 65 over 205 on the right side of the butt, and prepared the following for that. The regiment was augmented by the addition of the 13th Separate Company from Jamestown. On May 17th, 1898 the unit was designated the “65th Regiment Infantry, N...

Re: Two New Ones For Me serial # look up please.

Serial number 533276 is not listed, but quite a few Model 1888 rifles are listed nearby, mostly noted with New York state units in the Spanish American War. New York was very active in neatly marking their arms, but that mostly took place prior to the call up in April 1898. At the time, NY had a con...

Re: Two New Ones For Me serial # look up please.

Serial number 205157 not listed, and although there are a lot of numbers, but not huge amount on either side of that, there are no carbines listed within 1000 numbers either side.
