Re: Has anyone recrowned an 1866 trapdoor?

Not a M’66, but I did recrown a M’88 RRB . . This rifle must have been in service (unlike some) ‘cause it was actually fired very little (GREAT BORE) . . . .BUT CLEANED A LOT!!! (National Guard???) The rifling at the muzzle was GONE!! (Steel Rod grating against rifling) So-o-o-o . . . I chucked it i...

Re: My first Trapdoor

If you go to Al’s original website, there are quite a few “recipes” showing some black powder, and smokeless loads that have proven successful. As a matter of fact, it was just yesterday, I fired my 1888 RRB with 33 grs. #4198, a 3 grain polyester OP wad, and Lyman’s #457191 300 grain soft lead bull...

Only problem there is I can't get the breech screw out #@#@!!!
I have it soaking in WD 40 since yesterday afternoon so hopefully that will help??
I suggest you soak the tang screw in Kroil rather than WD40.
I never had any luck with WD and any of my firearms.

Re: Forager load data

I have a Marlin Model 19 pump shotgun with a bore WORSE than that, and I use it on the trap field. It seems to bust the clays as well as any of my other, better bores. My Winchester M’73 likewise has a “sewer pipe” bore, but the woodchucks can’t tell the difference ‘twixt it or any other, better bor...

No, it does not.
The double-shouldered cleaning rod is what secures the rod.
The “threading” on the other end is to secure the grasp of your fingers.

Re: Peep sights?

How about purchasing an “extra” tang . . .and D&T’ing it?
These tangs are very easy to remove and replace.
(Not the H&R replicas, as these “tangs” are cast INTEGRAL with the receivers.)

Re: Auction: EXTREMELY RARE EXPERIMENTAL US SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1868 TRAPDOOR CARBINE.

. . . . .One the sling bar tabs... These are plates that are welded to the ends of the bar. They secure the bar to the lock plate screws. On 45-70 carbines the faces are contoured to match the curve of the stock. The early bar tabs are flat faced, since they align with the musket style stock flat o...

Tony . . . .What, exactly, are “lock screw tabs”?

Re: Vintage Winchester mold for .50-70

I’m just curious here . . . .
Do you suppose this mold was made from a machined casting . . . .or from a machined billet?
