FYI, Vol. II of ANTIQUE FIREARMS 1849-1899 is now available on Amazon. This is the volume from my anthology that has the story of the models 1866 and 1868 rifles which were assembled off-the-books at Springfield in 1871, as well as the overall total ship to France for the Franco-Prussian War.

Re: New book
I consider Ed Hull's research and writing on the Franco Prussian arms sales to be one of the great revelations in U.S. martial arms history.
As with everything he has ever written, it is all solidly researched and documented, well written and loaded with images of relevant items.
Anyone interested in trapdoor era arms beyond the extremely narrow focus of Springfield Armory M1865-1888 rifles needs ALL of Ed Hull's books in their library.
(Full disclosure, I first met Ed at a gun show in Alabama in 1976 or 1977 when I was researching South Carolina militia longarms, and he helped then, and ever since.)

Re: New book
I heartily second John's comment. Many of us know each other only through the ether, but I have had the pleasure of visiting/meeting Ed, at least twice, and having handled (with white gloves, I might add) some of his more interesting specimens. A true gentleman, very quiet and reserved, but REALLY knows his stuff - his books are WELL worth the purchase.
