H&R Officers Model date of manufacture info

Post by John S. »

Serial number is 5703.
Can anyone help with date of manufacture, either for this particular number of the whole series of Officers Models?
Thanks!

I believe they started in 1971, but do not know if they made all 10,000 in one batch, so maybe 1972 or 1973? How critical is it?

Mine is #5858 and a real tack-driver, but have not shot it since the block blew open ($#$@*&^%$*&^ cheapskates at H&R, AND the early H&R COPIES by Pedersoli, no matter HOW hard they try to deny it   )

I wonder what makes it fly open. I have one and it hasn't done that yet but I've only fired about 20 rounds. I'm sure you checked but do you think the latch slipped? I noticed the set screw and was thinking that might be a possibility.

Yes, the thumb piece comes loose on the shaft, H&R saved somef money by making the latch in two pieces and avoiding the cap and its' machining in the block. Came back to bite them. Piece needs to pinned all the way through. Or, often with just a bit of stoning, a complete original block assembly can be fitted.
