If you go to Al’s original website, there are quite a few “recipes” showing some black powder, and smokeless loads that have proven successful.
As a matter of fact, it was just yesterday, I fired my 1888 RRB with 33 grs. #4198, a 3 grain polyester OP wad, and Lyman’s #457191 300 grain soft lead bullet.
I’ve also used the “cadet/carbine” load of 405 grain bullet and 55 grains 2F for very good results.

Just a reminder, this site is now hosted by ArmsCollectors.com and OldGuns.net.
The main https://ArmsCollectors.com page has links to many different categories, not just Trapdoors.
From there you can go to the main page for TrapdoorCollectors and find a ton of great information, far beyond that contained in this discussion forum.
If you want to go there directly, I recommend you bookmark that as the entry to get here, just as a reminder of what all is there when you need it.

In the first large block of categories in the "Historian and Collector Information" you will find "Shooter's page" with loads of stuff on shooting trapdoors. (That was a pun, laugh!)
