Wounded Knee rifle and carbine serial numbers

Post by Waterdawg2004 »

Are there any records of which serial numbers of Trapdoors used at Wounded Knee in South Dakota. Also any books recommendations would be helpful. I am trying to add to my collection. Thanks for any info.

I am not aware of any specific Wounded Knee numbers, but, as it occurred after the end of carbine production in 1889, almost anything over 50,000 and without a star is at least a possibility - far different from the LBH situation where the field is greatly limited.

Like Dick, I am not aware of anything that would list a Wounded Knee association.

However, if you can provide a list of the units engaged there, it might be possible to check to see if there are any hits for that unit within a reasonable time range. I seem to recall that it was largely an infantry, not cavalry action, but may be wrong.
