Bayonet for 1866 Allin conversion?

Post by Billy-Mac »

What bayonet fits a 1866 Allin conversion? Can it use standard 1873 bayonets?

No, it takes the same bayonet as that for the musket from which it was converted, in other words, the Model 1855/70.

ALL of the trapdoor arms (Models 1865-1870) prior to the 1873 take this bayonet, whose socket is slightly larger.

They are somewhat scarce today because huge numbers of them were reworked to fit the smaller M1873 barrel by cold-pressing the socket and then bluing them to match the finish on the new .45-70 rifles.
