I found volume 42, number 5; October 2020.
Has Miller Patent "Trapdoor" Breechloaders.
Could this be the issue?

Well, I went through about 75 "ready" copies (as opposed to those in binders - I'm a charter subscriber from 1979) and the ONLY one I could not find from that general period was 42-5. Finally I did, but, NO Miller article. Back to square one . . .

Well, of course it's not 42-5! It's 42-6!!!!. Close only counts in horseshoes

Not reneging on my offer, and will certainly copy it if you want - but it is an eleven page article, very nicely done - I'm thinking you might just want to buy an original copy of the magazine. Let me know.

It's a great magazine - ALWAYS something of interest. When they became affiliated with the NRA a few years back, I tried (as a Life member) to get it as my "one entitled magazine" since the Rifleman has sold out to black plastic and politics, but they wouldn't do it. Not to worry though, as a charter subscriber, I still pay just $14 per year for MAA! Thanks to you, I reorganized the last 20 years last night - missing just a couple, but I'll find 'em!

My article on Miller Trapdoors is in Man At Arms, issue of December, 2020.
I consider the number to be a serial number because it is visible. They run from a single digit to over 2200 per my research. They also serve as a parts matching-number, and a factory inventory/tracking number.

Received the back issue today, great article Dick!!
I did not know that there were cadet models made and also carbine's, unfortunately the article does not state the number of those made.
The number on my rifle, according to the article could be considered a serial number.
My rifle, having the number 260 on the barrel, breecblock and the rear face of the vertical sliding lock confirms that it has not been changed in any way.
