Thank you - little by little we piece it together!

And yours does have the later (standard) M168/70 "long-range" (L/R) sight with large numbers and 9 line, right?

[How could I ever have correlated "missing" with a description of the features which - at one time - were not there?]

Yes there is a 9 line. I can't quite figure out how to post pictures here yet, but Fred may still have pictures.

#25 has no cartouches and the prototype long range sight.

Looks like #25 caught the dreaded speckled paint disease 😲

Something with a very sharp point (I like a straightened safety pin as it has some spring to it) for flicking, a toothbrush, solvent of your choice, elbow grease, and TIME

I have a stared carbine updated for the SAW that I purchased quite cheap as it also was covered with white speckled paint and also some type of goo.
I sprayed the stock with G96 then let it soak a while. I then used a credit card to flick off the paint. It did take some TIME but eventually all the paint came off without any damage to the finish.

Well, did anyone here win this rifle?

#69 is back up on GB. Be careful bidding on this rifle as the seller has people with no reviews bidding or what I call SHILS. They bid up in hopes to get buyers to place higher bids.
I had the high bid on this rifle in the last auction until 10 minutes before it ended. Then magically there was numerous bids until my bid was beaten buy the same bidder with no reviews.
I knew it would be back.
