My five U.S. Model 1868’s coming up for sale soon
Posted: Thu Jul 20, 2023 5:05 pm
I’ll be selling all five of my early Model 1868’s.
These were all made in 1868 and are so stamped on their breech blocks.
I will retain rifle number 6 (a prototype) until no more photos of it for Richard Hosmer’s book are needed.
I will be taking photos of each rifle to email to anyone who’s interested in them.
Please Email me here to give me your email address so I can send the photo’s to you.
Only 23 such rifles are currently known to’ve survived to be in public and private collections today out of approximately 150 rifles made.
No private collection except for mine has more than one rifle.
I have Five.
No private collection has a rifle with a single digit serial number except for my collection. I own rifle number 6.
Only Springfield Armory has more early 1868’s than me.
They have one more.
There’s one Single digit rifle, one Triple digit rifle and three Double digit rifles.
Any photos that I email out will be Much sharper in image.
Here is a link to a post on this site with some photos I posted when this site first opened up.
