Off the wall receiver question

Post by nhbandit »

Crazy question but here goes anyway. I'm finding that I have some mix matched left over parts and would love to build a bang around "truck gun" just for fun. I'll have a spare Model 1870 receiver that currently has a shot our and cut to 22" barrel. Will a Model 1873 45-70 barrel screw into this receiver ? I have discovered by playing around that an 1873 breechblock fits the older receiver perfectly. This is really just a theoretical question as I do realize Model 1873 bare receivers are out there extremely cheap and then I'd be sure the other parts will fit.

I'd THINK it would - why don't you try and let us know?

I have a .45-70 barrel in an 1868 receiver which i was always going to make into a shooter as the bore is MINT, but have not gotten around to it, yet . . .
