Original 50/70 ammo
I ran across an original unopened box of 50/70 ammo. This box was manufactured by Frankford Arsenal in December of 1873.
I know that this box of ammo has a high price tag but would anyone here have an idea on current value? Thank you.

Re: Original 50/70 ammo
McPheeters has one, with end panel missing, for $750. I've seen them as high as $900. Think I have two - I MIGHT consider selling one if i do, and IF I did, I'd want about what Ken does, but mine are both intact. Problem is in the shipping of it; that's not cheap either.

IIRC, I think i saw a similar box at a cartridge collectors show at something like $450-600 range.
Tough box to find in decent condition
Loose single original rounds seem to fetch about $20.
It all depends on how badly you "need" any of this stuff.

The one I saw still has the pull string but partially opened. Seller is asking 950.00.
UPS ships ammo wheather new or antique at standard shipping rates with signature delivery.
Thanks Dick, I appreciate the help. Seems the box I'm looking at is a little overpriced.

Yeah, that's kinda high for a non-virgin. "Ammo Okkie"? Wonder if that's his name or he just doesn't know how to spell?
Maybe I'll go through my ammo - I've acquired a fair amount of boxed and loose over the years, and definitely have a few duplicates. Need an R F 9 82 Benet .50-70.

Maybe you could talk him into a lower price?? Wouldn't hurt to try.

interesting stuff. Frequently there is a tremendous gulf between the price tag and what something will actually sell for.

Re: Original 50/70 ammo
Now I’m going to have to drive to Kansas City to receive the 9 original vintage 50-70 rounds that my buddy wants to give me.
I don’t know what head stamp is on them.
