Fort Totten, North Dakota is the post from which unserviceable arms were shipped to Springfield Armory in August 1877.
I had not heard of this post before, but it looks like it is a real jewel, with many of the structures preserved by the state as a historic site, famous for its role in the Indian Wars and later as a Boarding School for Native Americans.

Also, the former Officers Quarters (later part of the school) have been preserved and restored to IW appearance and are available for overnight accommodations at very reasonable rates (seasonal May 15th- September 15th). Some have private attached baths, others have shared baths in the hall.

Very few trapdoor era sites remain close to their original configuration, so these may be worth a visit.

Re: Fort Totten
I live in North Dakota and have been a member of the North Dakota State Historical Board which oversees Fort Totten as a state historic site. I have stayed at the Fort Totten officer's quarters on numerous occasions. John is spot on in terms of it being a military post well worth seeing. It has the reputation of being one of the best preserved military posts of the period in the country. I recommend visiting!

I’m a North Dakotan too. My wife and I enjoy visiting it on occasion, it also is in close proximity to the best walleye fishing in America if not the world.
