U.S. MODEL 1873 “OFFICERS MODEL” .45-70 TRAPDOOR RIFLE BY HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON
Serial number 5703. About new condition with 100% of the deep blue finish on the barrel and vibrant case colors on the action and furniture. Engraving on action and furniture and the pewter forend tip is a nice imitation of that on the originals. Bore in the 26 inch barrel appears unfired since manufacture. Stock with nice factory checkering is about perfect, showing no signs of wear or use. No box.
The Officers Model trapdoors are the most beautiful U.S. military small arms ever made, albeit made for sale to officers (and a few politicians) rather than for issue to combat units.
Only 477 were made by Springfield Armory from 1875-1885, and they highly prized and highly priced collector items today.
In 1971 the Harrington & Richardson Company celebrated their 100 year anniversary which included making these replica Officer Model rifles. Once engaged in the trapdoor business, they went on to make small numbers of other variants including standard carbines as Little Big Horn commemoratives, and full length infantry rifles.
If you don’t have an original Officers Model, this is a nice filler until you can afford an original.
$1295 with free shipping to you (with C&R FFL) or your FFL dealer IF PAID BY USPS MONEY ORDERS. $65 shipping if any other form of payment.
