M68 Rifle, SN34631
This M68 Rifle was produced in 1870 and returned to
Springfield some time after 1873 to get the stock replaced. The replacement stock only has the musket cartouches
and not the M68 cartouches. Also, because of the late repair, the firing proof on the stock is a
circled P and not the large L. The blackening of the breech is excellent and the barrel is very bright.
The walnut stock is excellent.
The stock has some service dings. It has not been sanded
and is free of any cracks. The
cartouche and firing proof are visible. The
mechanics are excellent. The bore has excellent rifling but it has a number of very fine specks. This is an
an excellent collectible!!!
