Trapdoor Rifles

The hinge block of my 1866 trapdoor is not silver soldered to barrel. I removed the two screws holding it to the barrel and it came right off. Can I shoot the gun with just the screws holding it to the barrel or should I have it soldered back on?

I'm concerned due to the 1866 having a sleeved barrel. I'm worried the sleeve may come lose if I recrown the barrel.

I have a 1866 trapdoor with a great bore but the crown has some pretty bad dents. I have not been able to get this gun to group so I'm thinking of a recrown. Has anyone tried to recrown an 1866?

I use this Lyman Products EyePal Bow/Handgun Pack. It's a peep sight that just sticks on your shooting glasses. It's cheap, no modification needed to your gun and works great for my 65-year-old eyes.
