Re: .58 charge tubes as .58 rim fire.

Anyone should be able to turn the basic shape - I'm guessing it is the thin wall that is troublesome. Here's a thought: What about leaving the wall at say 1/8" thick and using a heel-type bullet, which could probably be hand-seated? At the bench you do not have to worry about fragility of the r...

Re: .58 charge tubes as .58 rim fire.

Since you seem to like shooting your 1st Allin more than occasionally, have you ever considered having someone turn proper cases for you? You could still drill and counterbore for the blank, to save some money, but everything else would be perfect...

Almost certainly a "closet queen" (or a "barracks queen") but a VERY nice example thereof...

I'm guessing that the vast majority of collectors in general, and certainly those in this specialized group, MUCH prefer US arms. Your lack of takers reflects this - they can probably visualize having the same problem down the road...

Does Dixie still have genuine original TD parts?

They were a go-to source i the 1960s/70s but then everythiong seemed to go repro. Their cleaning rods were especially bad.

Re: Baltimore 2025 highlights

Always wanted to make it to Baltimore, but it isn't in the cards now, for a number of reasons, ditto a trip to SA; just dreams. I did make one show at Allentown in the early 90s, while east on business - I was like a kid in a candy store, had never seen anything like it before - or since...

Re: Nickel Plated / Polished 1873 ?

Thanks for the info. I cannot say that SA NEVER polished a rifle for ceremonial use, but I can say it was never a standard product, and that I've never heard of it being such, at all, in over 50 years of collecting and research. I'd put the "close number" thing down as simply a coincidence...

Re: Nickel Plated / Polished 1873 ?

I would respectfully disagree with IMA. SA DID do a few M1868s, for possible naval service, but I amnotaware that they did any parade guns. Are you even sure it is nickel? Some patriotic organizations have chrome-plated rifles for ceremonial use, but I've never heard of it being offered by the Armory.

Welcome! Your rifle was made in 1886. Unless you want the fun/challenge of making a firing pin, I'd just buy one...

Re: Trapdoor carbines at auction

My browser will not allow me to enlarge the pics - have no idea why. FWIW, the '73 is on my list, which means that - at one time - I felt it was good. Jury's out on the '70 until I can view the pics, though I've seen MUCH worse in the way of not being right. Prices seem too low. I paid over $3,000 f...
