So, all that being said, and thank you, should I consider this one? I’m not a “collector” per se, I want to shoot it—but I do want one that’s not just tossed together and/or faked. The rifle, as a whole, looks to be in very good shape.

Yeah, the cartouche shown is not very legible, and that is a concern, too. Bummer.

Cartouche and Serial Number
A rifle I’m looking at online has a second oval style ESA with date cartouche, but the serial number puts the date in the year 1890 range. Is this viable, or has something been fiddled with?
