Re: "Tis the Season...

4 years ago on September 15th I diagnosed myself as having angina. Why should I be right this time, of all times? Fifteen days later I had open heart surgery.Every single day is a gift.

Re: Random observations on 1868's and GB

I have about 150 starline cases, they will last a long time IF you anneal them every 3 loads or so, otherwise the necks crack. Last October I was at a shoot where I shared my trapdoors. We went through 110 cartridges.

Random observations on 1868's and GB

Some random observations shared: Currently I am following twelve 1868's on Gunbroker, 9 of them are at 1k or above. Ten if I count the one listed at $995. They have been listed for months and months. Re: slugginging an 1866TP

buy Lee's mold and be happy. It's inexpensive and it works. My 1866 is one of my best shooters. I never slugged the bore and I just use a .515 sizing die in an old Lyman 45 lubrisizer. my lube is 50/50 olive oil and beeswax. It's not a sniper rifle.

Re: 1868 50/70 VALUE ?

FWIW, I shoot my 1868's more than any of my other trapdoors, I simply like them and I like 50-70.

Re: 1868 50/70 VALUE ?

Value is a very interesting beast. Knowledgeable collecters will generaly ascribe lower cash values overall to the guns they follow and much lower values to variants with major imperfections. The flip side is the uninformed owner that has "this cool old gun!" That "cool old gun is rar...

I know that guy and he loves and shoots the rifle with your cleaning rod in it, he is very grateful to have it.

WTB 1873 RECEIVER

I would like to purchase an 1873 receiver in the 69K/70K range for a Cadet I have. The serial number on mine is obliterated. Now if anyone has a cadet stock as well let me know!
