firing pin interchangability

Post by bigdave1 »

Does anyone know if the bronze firing pin from an '84 block will fit in an early high arch '73 block. I posted this question on an older discussion, but I'm not sure it will get read. Don't want to be redundant. I'm new to this board, and happy to be here. I couldn't an answer to this question in Al's book. Thanks.

The M1873 firing pin had a shoulder and cylindrical portion at the front for a firing pin spring to retract it. This was found to be unnecessary, and omitted from the later firing pins. DO NOT try to use a firing pin spring with one of the newer firing pins- it is not necessary, and will not fit on the newer pins. Just drop it in, and the pin will move back and forth a little, and that is fine.
