Notice in photo #45 of the string posted in the ad that the infamous deep stamping of the date (1873) on the breechblock, can easily be misconstrued as 1878.

I like mine better, but I'm prejudiced! Paid $325 in 1971 - which was MUCH higher than average then - my friends thought I was crazy. Metal just as nice, wood much better. That said, it is just "a pretty" - zero history. As Tom says, condition sells, but, so does rarity, and you cannot be too picky on the limited production stuff, unless you're Bill Gates . . . .
