Trapdoor Rifles

I checked SS, Grandpagunparts, Lodgewood, Regimental Quartermasters and others over the past two days and some Model 1884 Breech Blocks or the non dated side lock plates listed as Out of Stock. I’ll keep checking back to see if they get any in stock.

Keep an eye on eBay. If you are a registered user on eBay you can save the search and you’ll be notified when a new listing is posted.
On S&S you can also be notified when back in stock.
Gun shows are also an option.

And it does have the correct middle band with the slot in it for the Buffington site. The first picture I posted I just hadn’t push the site ladder all the way down into the slot.

Thanks to Dick Hosmer my very first trapdoor rifle is now correct as it was issued in Jan-Feb 1889. Thanks to Whig and JohnS checking in SRS they verified that this historic rifle was issued to a soldier in the Texas 3rd Volunteer Infantry Regiment M Company in April 1898.

Dick was able to get me an 1884 dated block, a correct hammer, and a correct side plate, and I was able to get a correct cam latch as well. I also was able to buy an original leather sling for it. The block Dick sold me is much closer of a match to the rest of the patina on the barrel and other parts of the rifle, which I’m really happy with.

Now I’ve got to figure out what to do with the four Model 1873 parts I have in a box. Do you all recommend I try to sell them on this forum or take them to a gun show?

I’ll do my best to try to hold hard with just this one trapdoor, but as you all have counseled there’s a good chance I’ll be buying another one
