Quick question: Is the extractor spring and plunger on the M1868 rifles the same as those found on the M1873 rifles?
Thanks for your answers.

If the assembly is not identical, it's gotta be DAMN close. I would presume they could be swapped back and forth with impunity. I've never segregated them in my little parts accumulation, and have never had a fitting or operational problem.

Okay, good question.
Someone find the Springfield Armory table showing changes or which parts fit in which models 1855-1888.
We can post that somewhere n the site here.

Great idea - I was too lazy to dig it out for something of which I was so sure. It's in OM22, and Waite-Ernst, for starters. Don't recall seeing it in Al's, but I could be wrong. Have been before, will be again

To answer my own question, and for future reference, yes, the extractor pin and extractor spring on the M1868 rifles is the exact same part as found on the M1873arms. I recently purchased a very nice M1868 rifle and found the extractor didn't work on it. Having seen this before I knew that probably either the extractor spring, the extractor pin, or both were broken. As I was ordering original replacement parts from S&S, I noticed the part numbers were the same as those listed for the same M1873 parts, hence my original question regarding their interchangeability. Encouraged by your responses, I went ahead and ordered the parts. I just got finished installing them. They work fine.
