I've seen a lot of these and owned one of their plain carbines in the 1970s. The case coloring looks different on the one linked below. You think it's because the rifle has seen use and the colors have "mellowed" over 50 years? Or maybe someone either scuffed the colors down or even re case colored it at some point in the past?

Hard to say - I think it's just mellowed. Perhaps it was stored in an atmosphere that affected it. The H&R coloring (often orange and blue striped sorta like a zebra) always turned me off - nothing at all like the original. Of course, I'm sure they weren't done like the originals either - probably some sort of spray? I will give them one thing though, they are tack-drivers! Don't shoot mine anymore because I've never gotten around the fixing the latch . . . Maybe another "project"?
