The condition certainly leaves...something to be desired, shall we say? But I'm thinking this one might be legit.

A shame it is missing the rear sight ladder/slider. And the patina prevents me from being certain whether or not the front sight blade is brass, though I think it might be.

I particularly like the optimism of describing the stock as maybe having been "lightly cleaned."

Well, as I scrolled through the pics, I was disturbed by the absence of the stock flats. At first, I thought that they'd just been smoothed over as we sometimes see, but, when I saw the comb I said ouch! That's a .45-70 stock and a late one at that. Stopped at that point, so don't know whether he shows a buttplate-off view or not. I was thinking that a good cleaning would do wonders, but now my advice would be to walk away. That said, the metal looks right, and the stock could just be an OLD replacement for something that broke - as opposed to a modern scam. On reflection, the stock shows a lot less wear and tear than the metal. Your $$$$, your choice, but, it isn't "right".

Excellent - I had thought it was sanded to oblivion but clearly it’s way more incorrect!
