1884 carbine

Is it at all possible for a correct 1884 carbine to have a solid buttplate with no provision for the cleaning rod ? This particular carbine has a cartouche on the lower left side of the buttstock of an eagle and U.S. Springfield. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
