Trapdoor Rifles

I have replicated this load as best I can using modern black powder and the lee 405gr hollow base bullet and it runs about 1100fps from my 1882 carbine with an excellent bore. Is the velocity about right? It’s very accurate and easy to shoot and load. I have also used shooters world black at 1200fps which is even more accurate but slightly more recoil. I sighted the gun to the black powder load and won’t get to stretch its legs out to see if the long range sight settings match till spring .

TexcL2 , I checked an original box and find on it "initial velocity 1141 feet Dec.14 1888". Reloading carbine cartridges brass shell tinned. Hope this helps.

That’s a great reference, seems close enough to me. It was also 10 degrees outside which I’m sure slowed the velocity slightly. I really enjoy shooting this carbine.
