My early Kansas marked ‘73 rifle

Post by Texcl2 »

Here’s my state of Kansas property marked ‘73 is in the 63k serial range and in addition to the barrel being marked property of Kansas it has numbers stamped into the tang of the buttplate and a K engraved and a capital I and a 5 stamped on the shoulder socket of the buttplate, which I’ve never seen. Wood has some really awful what I suppose is a laquer coating. Oh and a little CK stamped on the toe of the stock. Most parts seem to be early model but it has been updated to 3 clicks, the rear sight is an early model but has slotted screw that make me suspicious. I honestly think this gun was heavily reworked at some point but not at Springfield so maybe by state or some civilian afterwards but the bluing is a deep original type blue so who knows but was done long ago and ridden heavily afterwards.
