BUY-SELL-TRADE TD 1877 Stared Carbine in Great Shape

Post by texasmac »

$2,200 + $75 shipping. 1877 "Stared" carbine is in great shape considering the age. The bore looks like new with a very nice 1881 cartouche. The carbine was purchased 20+ years ago from Al Frasca. The attached photos, although not great, provide a pretty good idea of the condition. I have many more close-up I can post or send to an interesting party. BTW, the rear sight is installed with slot-less slight screws.

Almost certainly a "closet queen" (or a "barracks queen") but a VERY nice example thereof...

Hi carlsr,

For some reason I did not receive an email notifying me of your PM. I happened to check in & only then realized I had a PM which I just responded to. Should you have additional questions please email or call me at the address or phone # I provided in the PM. Thanks.

I have a couple of question for you TD experts. One of the members of this forum was interested in the rifle but declined to buy it after I pointed out that I’m pretty sure the barrel exterior was refinished due to the barely discernable barrel stamps with the exception of a very well defined “P” just in front of the receiver. When I bought the carbine from Al Fraska his only comment about the barrel was “the bore is near mint”. I ran a bore scope down the bore & it appears brand new to me. Since it’s a stared carbine I assumed, due to the excellent bore, the barrel was refurbished along with the rest of the carbine rather than replacing it. So, I have two questions?

Is it somewhat common for Springfield to refinish rather than replace barrels on stared carbines? And if so, what is a fair price for one in the condition displayed in the photos with a refinished barrel? Following are some more photos.
