HWS V1, page 274: USN Bureau of Ordnance: A 'Schuler' .30 experimental aircraft machine gun, CL=2.489" HS=FA 20. Apparently related to our temporary infatuation with the 11mm Vickers case for a heavy machine gun. Of course once the .50 BMG arrived, nothing else mattered!
Too bad you didn't keep them!

Old Western Scrounger now has new .50-70 ammo in stock. $79 per box of 20 if you are desperate.

Not desperate John. I believe you are seeing the new NORMAL with primers also near 100.00 a thousand . Not to mention a world wide shortage of nitrocellulose Has causes Alliant powder to suspend all sales even orders in the pipe line. They produce a wide range of powders. To name only a few all Reloader numbers 7-50 Bullseye. Unique, 2400.

20 rounds of starline brass goes for well over $100 per 20 now a days. Personally I’ll wait for them to make a run of it and buy a few hundred this next go around. I recently sent my .50 -140 sharps sporting rifle back to Shiloh sharps to have it rebarreled in .45/70. It’s the only cartridge I can reliably get brass and components for. I would have preferred it in .50/70 or .50/90 but it’s just too much of a hassle. All my .50/70 brass is reserved for trapdoors currently lol. Thankfully it lasts forever.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reloaded them!

The starline brass is really top notch, I do hope they make some more. I’m shocked another manufacturer hasn’t stepped up to make it, I can get .43 Spanish no problem for gosh sake, why not .50/70.
