My first trapdoor state police carbine
I finally got my first trapdoor. I was looking for one of the SPF (State Police Force) marked carbines, from the Pennsylvania State Police and their first rifles in 1906. 4 states and over 4500 tables later. I got this one on the last table of a show near Baltimore this weekend. As a 32 year retired PSP Trooper, I decided I wanted my first trapdoor to have some personal significance for me. I have very little experience/knowledge of these rifles. I think the one I got looks very nice. There are no proof marks on the barrel. It's serial number is 33136. The sight is the stepped sight with no "C" I think that is right? The stock is the thicker replacement stock with no trap and no holes under the butt plate. I would be curious what other history any one could tell me about it.
I hope this link for pictures works.

Looks good - appears to have been reblued at some point, but that would not be totally unexpected, given the usage.
M1873 sights are not marked R or C; you tell the difference by the base graduations (rifle 4, carbine 5). Yours is correct.

Dick, thanks for the info I certainly appreciate it. Would an SRS check show any history? If not, is there any other way to get info on where it has been?
Thanks, Dave

I will check my SRS and other records for 33136. You can write them, but they won't look for a number - they report what they find. I know that sounds like almost the same thing but it isn't. Now, bite my tongue. Over the years, SPF carbines have been a hot topic on the old bulletin board. IF it is still up, you might be able to search there. But DO IT NOW - the board may go dead at any time. I DID copy the index to the whole 20,000 posts so it is possible to know who talked to who when about what - to a limited degree, all we will have is the post name. author and date.

Old board is still working, but "SPF" and "Pennsylvania" produced no meaningful results. Don't have time to go deeper just now.

Thanks to everyone helping to look for info.
I took a pic the muzzle in the below link. Dies this help to determine if the rifle was reblued?

Not particularly - though it doesn't say "not"; it's really more the others.
In my opinion, re-bluing is less of a concern on after-market, or secondary use, pieces than something which is supposed to be pure from SA as-made, minus honest wear.
