.58 rim fire

Here is an original.58 rim fire round and a new .58 rim fire round. I make these to shoot my 1865 first Allin conversion. Takes a while to make one case which uses a 22 acorn blank.
The bullets are made from a double mold that I had made at Accurate molds. Left is from an original diagram which I added some length to reach 500 gr. The one on the right is from their catalogue. I have not tried these bullets yet but they should work well.

Are the cases made on a lathe?

No Jim, they are made from Magtech 28 gauge shot shells. It's a time consuming process.

Unfortunately the .58 case is so wide that the blank must be placed off-center, requiring the round to be placed carefully. I just saw a similar case used in a .32 caliber rolling block, but the diameter was such that the blank could be inserted into the bored-put primer pocket of the parent case and still receive the firing pin blow. On the .58s, I wonder if anyone has explored placing the blank closer to the center - MAYBE allowing use of the same cartridge in both CF and RF arms?

Dick, the Blank must be placed close to the edge of the case. On the M65 the firing pin hits the case at 12:00 High. I’ll have to take another picture of a case that’s already been fired. Even without the spent blank you will notice that the firing pin hits the edge.
Ok, here's the picture. The small indent at 12:00 is from the firing pin. When fired the indent only extends about another 1/16" further down.
