H & R trapdoor rifle

Post by Spokes »

Greetings!

I was wondering if anyone knows the size of the set screw in the trapdoor cam lock.

I always tighten the screw after each session but this time it was not there to tighten.

Thanks in advance.

Numrich gun parts. H&R 1873. #1381381450 long, #1381440 short. $4.39 each. I would suggest you order several in case you lose another or at least order something else so the postage won't seem so ridicules.

Spokes, Set the cam on the shaft where it locks, mark the shaft then slide cam off the shaft file or grind a flat spot on the shaft then install the set screw with thread locker on it then place a second screw down on the first one. these are hex head Allen type and I have found there is room for the second one. This should cure the problem forever. Hope this helps.

Tom,
I got ahold of some 4-40 x .125" set screws. They start but they won't thread in all the way and I don't want to force anything. What size are the screws that you are using?

Ken,
Thanks for the info but I would rather use a hex drive screw rather than the slotted versions shown on Numrich. BTW, How do I know if I need a long or a short screw just in case I have to use the Numrich screws,

Many thanks to both of you for the info.
