Five very early 1868’s

Here are Five of the approximately 150 1868 rifles assembled at Springfield Armory in 1868. Like all 1868’s, the year of their assembly is on their breech blocks.
Take note of their serial numbers.
The top rifle is serial number 6
It is actually a Prototype.

Some are in better condition than others, but with only 23 such rifles known so far to’ve survived to be in public and private collections, the goal of finding a pristine conditioned example of these rifles doesn’t come into play.
Finding even One of these 1868/1868’s can take a lifetime, if at all.
Surviving 1868/1868’s are rarer than surviving Colt Walkers.
