1866 2nd Allin stock
I have an 1866 standard rifle with a cut down stock. Does anyone know where to find a repro? So far, all that I have found are for the 1866 cadet. Will earlier (or later) stocks work with modifications?

Any CW musket stock can be modified, if you very carefully copy the inletting from your cut-one.

If your stock is just cut and missing some of the forend wood, it would be best to just replace the forend. It is easy to splice them under a band so it won't show. You MIGHT find an original forend from a boogered .58 musket stock, but not likely.
Check with Ed Kneisley in Pennsylvania- 717-741-2556 or e-mail him at: EdKnisely@aol.com
Dunlap Woodcrafts in Virginia make excellent quality walnut repro stocks for most U.S. martial arms, and for most of them they also offer forends for a lot less than a full stock.
I have seen Dunlap's stuff at the Baltimore show for many years, and have used some and am very pleased with the quality if their work and the wood they use. Here is a link, and their M1861 stock would be suitable for a M1866.

NOTE- there are a number of other people selling stocks, and from what I have seen their quality ranges from mediocre to a waste of good firewood. Stick with Dunlap.
