Ken, They are in production for Government orders as well as Estes rocketry supplies as Estes now operates the Goex plant. Hodgen closed the plant after the last "annual" explosion in June 2021. The U.S. government requires strategic supplies to be on shore produced and does use vast amounts of black powder for military uses.
Naval guns use it to ignite smokeless rounds as well as many artillery rounds.
Back in 1967-68 I noticed the 105 rounds I fired had a tube up the center and was told it contained half pound of black powder to ignite powder bags.
The Army has a complete black powder plant on a base in Indiana that they would have operated if the GOEX sale did not go thru. Now folks in Indiana sleep better!
Civilian powder is last on the list first it was Spring, summer now fall for deliveries.
Nice if they make deliveries before end of year.

Tom, thank you for the update and history on Goex. I like to buy powder made in the USA. I have no experience with other brands of powder.
