Army Marksman J.B. Coons

Photograph taken of 1st Sgt, John B. Coons, Co. B 12th Infantry with his family, circa 1891. He was on the Dept. of the Dakota Rifle Team and finished 3rd with the Silver Metal in 1891. In 1892 he finished seventh winning the Bronze Metal. In 1893, he again finished seventh and won another Bronze Metal. Also, he is wearing the Sharpshooter Cross with two, 3-year bands, and the Distinguished Marksman Metal. Look on pages 227-240 of Book II for a pictures of these metals Return to Great Photos #4
