I’ve used Alox and SPG lube . . .no complaints on either.

Save your brass for handloading some .460/.461” diameter lead bullets, and be amazed at how much your accuracy IMPROVES!

Re: Color case hardening on my 1884

When discussing these Springfield Armory “works of art” with some new members of my club, I mentioned the reasoning of the “U” marking on the lower band . . . When I said it was there to orient the band correctly to match the taper of the stock at that point, therefore the band has a matching intern...

Re: Color case hardening on my 1884

Using the FLASH mode on my iPhone, the photos of the receiver on my Model 1884 Trapdoor showed how brilliant the color case hardening really is. I know you know this, but . . . . It’s ONLY the breechblock and tang that received the color-case hardening colors . . .NOT the receiver. Beautiful color!

Re: Rifle Identification

Haven't had any experience with that, but I can say that WD40 does not - at least in my experience. Here’s where we “part ways”, Dick . . . I don’t allow WD40 ANYWHERE NEAR any of my firearms! Used it once on a Garand rear sight, and when the “vehicle” evaporated, it left a varnish-like substance t...

Now that you have an GREAT LOOKING original, get to handloading for that gem . . . .and get into casting your own bullets! Size ‘em to .460/.461 and n...

Re: Vibrating tumbler

Guess I’m old fashioned . . When at the range, as soon as I fire a case, it comes out of the chamber and gets dumped into a can of warm soapy water. When I get home, the water and cases get dumped into the bathroom sink, the cases are soaked with warm clean soapy water, then each case is scrubbed wi...

Looks real to me also . . .
You might be interested to know, the serial was struck in the first quarter (Jan.-Mar.) of 1887 . . . one of 9,702 rifles that quarter.

Wonder if the seller has any more “reproductions” for sale!
